Bhilwara

Bhilwara, an industrial city, got its name because it was home to a large number of Bhil people. Peasants, however, drove these Bhils away. Ironically, there are now very few Bhils in Bhilwara. Another legend tells how the location got its name. Bhilwara reportedly had a mint where coins known as ‘Bhiladi’ were minted, giving rise to the city’s name.

History of Bhilwara

The name of the district was derived from the denomination of coins known as “Bhiladi” that were produced at a mint at the location that is now Bhilwara. The ancient Bheel Adivasi clan, which assisted Maharana Pratap in his struggle against King Akbar of the Mughal Empire, is said to have resided in the Bhilwara region. As a result, the territory became known as Bheel+Bada (Bheel’s area) Bhilwara. It has grown to become one of Rajasthan’s major cities over the years. Bhilwara is currently better known as the nation’s textile capital. Places to Visit in Bhilwara

Mandal

Mandal, 13 kilometres from Bhilwara, is home to the village of Meza, where an irrigation dam on the Kothari River has been built. Boating facilities and a picturesque lake are available at the dam site. These are lovely tourist destinations. One of the must-see attractions is the Neelkanth Mahadev Temple.

Asind

Sawai Bhoj, a descendant of Prithvi Raj Chauhan, built some temples on the banks of the Khari. Asind is the administrative centre for a tehsil and a Panchayat Samiti.

Bijoliya

Bijoliya, which is walled and has two gates on the north and south, is located on a plateau called Uparmal and is a beautiful sight. There are five Jain temples dedicated to Parsvanath in the area. Then there’s the MandakiniBaori reservoir.

Shahpura

A holy site for followers of the ‘Ram Sanehis.’ Every year, a large number of people come to see the Ram Dwara. For five days each year, the ‘Phool Dol Ka Mela’ is held on Phagun Shukla. Thousands of tourists come here for the same reason.
