Table of Contents

No vague “ask us for a price.” This guide puts real 2026 numbers on hiring a private car and driver: per day, per kilometre and by vehicle. It also shows the working behind every total, so you can check it yourself.

We run cars out of Delhi on the Golden Triangle and Rajasthan routes. In 14 years of quoting for visitors from abroad, the confusion we meet most often isn’t the headline price. It’s what that price covers, and why two quotes for the same trip can sit thousands of rupees apart.

How much does a private car and driver cost in India in 2026?

On Delhi-based routes through Agra, Jaipur and Rajasthan, a private car with driver typically costs:

    1. ₹2,800–4,000 a day for a sedan
    2. ₹3,800–5,000 a day for a Maruti Ertiga
    3. ₹4,500–6,000 a day for an older-model Toyota Innova
    4. ₹5,500–7,500 a day for a Toyota Innova Crysta
    5. ₹7,500–12,000 a day for a 12-seat Tempo Traveller

These are per vehicle, not per person. And yes, foreign visitors can hire a private car and driver in India freely; it’s how most international travellers cover the Golden Triangle, and you don’t need an Indian licence or any permit of your own.

The day rates are vehicle-inclusive. They cover the car, the driver, fuel, tolls, parking, state taxes and permits, and the driver’s own food and lodging. Your hotels, meals, monument tickets, guides and tips are separate. Whether GST is included depends on the operator.

Private Car & Driver Rates (2026)

About these rates. These are planning ranges for the Delhi and North India tourist-vehicle market, not a government-fixed tariff. Kerala, Goa, Mumbai, South India and the Himalayas run on their own local markets, and prices there can be noticeably different. The section “How We Calculated These 2026 Rates” further down explains where each number comes from.

How Car-and-Driver Pricing Works in India

A private car is priced per vehicle, not per passenger. One traveller or three, the sedan costs the same. That’s why the arithmetic quietly favours couples, families and small groups.

The meter, so to speak, runs from the operator’s garage and back. If the car is parked in west Delhi and your hotel is in Aerocity, the drive between them belongs to your trip. Tour operators usually build this into the quote. Taxi-style quotes sometimes list it as a separate line.

Most quotes arrive in one of three shapes:

    1. Per-day rate: one figure per vehicle per day, with road costs and the driver’s keep already inside. Many tour operators price multi-day trips this way, us included.
    2. Per-km rate: you pay for distance, and the driver’s allowance, tolls, parking and taxes are added afterwards.
    3. Local package: for sightseeing inside one city, usually 8 hours or 80 km, whichever runs out first.

That local package is why a city day costs less than a travel day. A Delhi sightseeing day in a sedan runs about ₹2,000–2,800. The same car on an outstation day costs ₹2,800–4,000, because it’s committed to longer distances and the driver sleeps away from home.

Eighty kilometres sounds stingy until you’ve sat in Delhi traffic. A full day through Old Delhi, Humayun’s Tomb and the Qutub Minar, ending at Connaught Place, rarely goes past 60 or 70 km. It’s the eight hours that tend to run out. If you like lingering in museums, ask about the extra-hour rate, usually ₹150–500 depending on the vehicle.

If your trip opens with two days in Delhi, you may not need the car for both. Old Delhi is best explored on foot, the Metro reaches several major sights, and one well-planned Delhi sightseeing day by private car often covers the rest. Airport runs are simpler: a private pickup from Delhi (IGI) to a city hotel is usually a fixed ₹1,000–1,500 in a sedan, rather than a full day rate.

One-way trips. If you finish in Jaipur and fly on, the car still has to drive home to Delhi, empty. Operators usually recover that run, either by billing the return kilometres or by adding a fixed return fee.

Take a one-way Delhi–Jaipur transfer of about 280 km in a sedan at ₹12 per km:

    1. billed with its return run, it comes to 560 km, or ₹6,720 before allowance and tolls
    2. the one-way distance alone would be ₹3,360

Some operators charge less when they can line up a return booking. Ask how the return is priced before you compare totals.

State borders. The classic Golden Triangle passes through Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana. Tourist vehicles cross state lines on a tourist permit, most commonly the All India Tourist Permit. Some states add their own charge on top. Rajasthan’s transport department, for instance, publishes a special road tax for tourist vehicles registered in other states, paid as a four-day lump sum that then covers the rest of that calendar month. With a vehicle-inclusive quote, the operator handles this and it never reaches your bill.

A few other things move the number:

    What Moves the Price

Key variables that cause private car and driver quotes to shift

    Factor Effect on Price
Season & Demand High Impact Demand from overseas visitors peaks from October to March. Around Christmas, New Year and Diwali, the better cars book out first and quotes firm up.
Vehicle Type & Age Core Variable Newer and larger vehicles cost more. A quote that doesn’t name the model can’t really be compared.
Trip Length & Daily Distance Math Split This decides whether per-day or per-km works out cheaper based on the operator's daily billed minimum.
Premium Vehicles Luxury Tier A Toyota Fortuner runs around ₹26–30 per km. Mercedes and BMW saloons cost considerably more.
Fuel & Diesel Fluctuation Market Snapshot Diesel was about ₹95 a litre in Delhi in early September 2026. For quotes months ahead, ask whether the price is fixed or moves with fuel.

    Per-Day vs Per-Km Rates

Which one wins comes down to your daily distance. Below the 250 km minimum most operators bill, a per-km quote behaves like a fixed day rate; above it, the meter keeps running while a day rate holds flat.

That leaves two situations to compare:

    1. Light days (at or under 250 km): a per-km quote behaves like a fixed day rate of 250 km × the per-km rate, plus the driver’s allowance and road costs. Compare that with the per-day quote.
    2. Long days (over 250 km): per-km charges keep climbing while a per-day rate stays flat, so per-day tends to win.

    Worked examples at mid-range rates:

    1. Sedan: ₹3,400 a day, or ₹12/km plus ₹350 allowance.
    2. Crysta: ₹6,500 a day, or ₹19/km plus ₹450 allowance.
    3. Road costs on the per-km quotes: tolls, parking and state entry are estimated at a flat ₹500–700 a day, to keep the comparison simple.

All totals are per vehicle, before any GST.

    Per-Day vs Per-Km Price Comparison

Side-by-side totals for classic Golden Triangle routes (whole vehicle, before GST)

Trip (Whole Vehicle) Km Driven / Billed Sedan (Dzire / Etios) Toyota Innova Crysta
Per Day Per Km Per Day Per Km
    3-Day Golden Triangle Delhi – Agra – Jaipur – Delhi ~750 / 800 km ₹10,200 Lower ₹12,150 – ₹12,750 ₹19,500 ₹18,050 – ₹18,650 Lower
    5-Day Golden Triangle Classic Circuit + Sights 800–850 / 1,250 km ₹17,000 Save ~₹2.5k–3.2k ₹19,250 – ₹20,250 ₹32,500 ₹28,500 – ₹29,500 Save ~₹3k–4k
    7-Day GT + Ranthambore Triangle + Tiger Safari 1,100–1,400 / 1,750 km ₹23,800 Lower ₹26,950 – ₹28,350 ₹45,500 ₹39,900 – ₹41,300 Lower

At these rates, the sedan is cheaper on a per-day basis for every trip length. The Crysta is cheaper per km. Change the rates and that can flip. So don’t read the table as a rule. Read it as a method.

Long driving days show the other side. A 340 km Jaipur–Jodhpur day in a Crysta costs about ₹7,510 on the per-km basis above (340 × ₹19, plus ₹450 and roughly ₹600 of road costs). That’s about ₹1,000 more than the ₹6,500 day rate.

The break-even distance. If you’d like one number to work with: take the per-day rate, subtract the daily allowance and about ₹600 of road costs, then divide by the per-km rate. The answer is the daily distance above which the per-day quote becomes cheaper:

    • Sedan: about 204 km. That’s below the 250 km minimum, so the day rate wins even on light days.
    • Crysta: about 287 km. Per-km stays cheaper unless your days average longer than that.

Choosing a Vehicle: Sedan, Ertiga, Innova or Tempo Traveller

Car-hire vocabulary in India trips up almost everyone. When an operator here says “SUV”, they often mean a seven-seat people carrier like the Ertiga or Innova, not a four-wheel drive. An Innova and an Innova Crysta are also different cars, however alike they look in a WhatsApp photo.

Sedan (Maruti Dzire, Toyota Etios, Honda Amaze)

Right for one or two adults, with room in the boot for two large suitcases packed sensibly. For Delhi sightseeing, a run to Agra, or a Delhi airport transfer, it’s all you need. By the fourth hour on a long highway drive, though, two adults with heavy luggage will feel why we reserve sedans for shorter city hops. And three grown adults across the back seat is a squeeze we wouldn’t pick for intercity days.

    Maruti Ertiga

The sensible step up for three adults, or for two who are travelling with a lot of luggage. Fold the third row and the boot swallows a surprising amount. You also sit a little higher, which settles the motion sickness some visitors get on the busier highway stretches. Load it with four adults and their suitcases for a full day of driving, and you’ve asked more of it than it can comfortably give.

    Toyota Innova and Innova Crysta

The workhorses of North Indian touring. The older Innova is roomy and dependable, and good value for three or four adults on moderate routes. The Crysta is the newer, quieter generation, and it’s the car most families with us settle on once the plan holds several five-hour drives, such as the Agra to Jaipur leg or anything further into Rajasthan. It costs more for the plain reason that it costs more to buy and run. When a quote says “Innova or similar”, ask which one, and roughly how old.

    The four-passenger luggage constraint

A Crysta seats up to seven on paper, but that isn’t the number that matters to you. Four international travellers with four full-sized 28-inch hard-case check-in bags need the third row folded completely flat to fit the luggage. A fifth passenger won’t fit alongside that load. And reputable tourist operators avoid open roof racks at highway speeds, both for baggage safety and because dust and sudden monsoon rain arrive without much warning. If four of you are carrying big cases, plan the Crysta around four seats, not five.

    Tempo Traveller

A high-roof minibus, usually a Force Traveller, with 9 to 16 seats, for groups of six or more. Its per-km rate, driver allowance, tolls and state taxes all run higher than a car’s, because several of those charges scale with vehicle size. On our reading of the market, the top of the Tempo range usually reflects larger or luxury versions (such as “Maharaja” seating) and peak dates. A standard 12-seater on ordinary dates tends to price in the lower half.

What each vehicle costs per person

This table uses the 5-day Golden Triangle at the midpoint of each per-day range: ₹3,400 for a sedan, ₹4,400 for an Ertiga, ₹5,250 for an Innova, ₹6,500 for a Crysta and ₹9,750 for a Tempo Traveller.

What each vehicle costs per person

5-day Golden Triangle route split by party size

Group Vehicle 5-day total (vehicle) Per person Per person US$
    2 travellers, normal luggage Sedan ₹17,000 ₹8,500 $89
    2 travellers, heavy luggage Ertiga ₹22,000 ₹11,000 $116
    3 travellers Ertiga ₹22,000 ₹7,330 $77
    4 travellers Innova ₹26,250 ₹6,560 $69
    4 travellers, long drives Innova Crysta ₹32,500 ₹8,130 $86
    6 travellers Tempo Traveller (12) ₹48,750 ₹8,130 $86
    10 travellers Tempo Traveller (12) ₹48,750 ₹4,880 $51

Four adults sharing a Crysta pay about the same per head as two people in a sedan, with far more room. Six in a Tempo Traveller pay the same as four in a Crysta, and at ten people the cost per head drops below ₹5,000.

For two travellers, the calculation runs the other way. At mid-range rates, a Crysta costs about ₹3,100 a day more than a sedan: ₹15,500 over five days. If most of your days are in Delhi and Agra, a sedan is honestly fine. Spend the difference only when a run of long driving days lies ahead. The extra legroom matters on day six. On day one, you won’t notice it.

What’s Included (Fuel, Tolls, Parking, Driver Stay)

In this guide, “vehicle-inclusive” means everything to do with the car and the driver, and nothing to do with the rest of your trip.

    What's Included vs Billed Separately

Clear breakdown of vehicle-inclusive costs vs on-road extras

Item In a vehicle-inclusive price? If billed separately (2026)
Fuel Included Built into per-km rates
Highway tolls Included Yamuna Expressway (Delhi–Agra) ~₹400–500 one way for a car; minibuses pay more. FASTag pays automatically.
Parking Included Small fees at monuments and hotels that add up over a week
State taxes and permits Included Vary by state and seat count
Driver allowance (food + lodging) Included ₹300–500 a day for cars; ₹500–700 for Tempo Travellers
Night driving Check Commonly ₹250–500 when the car runs after about 10 pm
GST Check 5% or 18%, depending on the operator’s GST scheme
Your hotels and meals Not included Separate
Monument tickets Not included Taj Mahal ₹1,100 for foreign adults + ₹200 for the mausoleum (ASI). Full Delhi–Agra–Jaipur ~₹6,000–8,000 per person.
Guide Not included Booked separately for the sites where you want one
Tips Not included Your choice; many travellers use ₹300–500 a day

One misunderstanding comes up again and again: guests worry that they’ll have to find their driver a room. You won’t.

    • The allowance in the quote covers his meals and bed.
    • Many hotels on the tourist circuit keep drivers’ rooms for exactly this.
    • Most drivers prefer eating at a roadside dhaba with other drivers over hotel food anyway.

If an operator asks you to arrange or pay for your driver’s room, treat it as a warning sign.

For the full hotel and ticket budget on the classic route, see our Golden Triangle tour cost guide.

Your driver is not your guide

A private driver handles transport and logistics: routes, timings, parking, and getting you to the right gate at the right hour. Our drivers communicate in everyday English. Fluency varies, though, and a driver isn’t a licensed guide, so don’t expect detailed history inside the Taj Mahal or Amber Fort. If commentary matters to you, book a licensed guide for those sites. We can add one at an extra charge.

    Sample Trip Costs

Distances used in these examples (approximate road distances):

    1. Delhi–Agra: about 230 km on the Yamuna Expressway, roughly 3.5 hours.
    2. Agra–Jaipur: about 240 km via Fatehpur Sikri, 5 hours or so with stops.

Delhi–Jaipur: most drivers now take the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway (NE-4) through the Sohna–Dausa stretch rather than the older, more congested NH-48. That trims the run to about 4–4.5 hours, at the cost of roughly ₹500–600 in one-way expressway tolls paid by FASTag. In a vehicle-inclusive quote, those tolls are already inside your price.

    Sample Trip Costs

Estimated whole-vehicle prices across common North India routes

Trip and pricing basis Days / km Sedan Ertiga Crysta Tempo (12)
    Delhi city day: 8 hrs / 80 km package 1 / 60–80 ₹2,000–2,800 ₹2,500–3,200 ₹3,000–4,000 ₹4,500–5,500
    Same-day Delhi–Agra–Delhi: per-km + extras 1 / ~480 ₹6,500–8,500 ₹7,500–9,400 ₹9,500–12,000 ₹12,900–15,800*
    5-day Golden Triangle: per-day × 5 5 / 800–850 ₹14,000–20,000 ₹19,000–25,000 ₹27,500–37,500 ₹37,500–60,000
    10-day GT + Rajasthan loop 10 / 2,000–2,300 ₹34,000–40,000 ₹44,000–50,000 ₹65,000–75,000 ₹97,500–1,20,000

    How these totals are built

The Agra day trip is built per km: take the ~480 km at the per-km rate, then add one day’s driver allowance, ₹700–1,000 in expressway tolls (lower when you return within 24 hours) and ₹200–400 of parking. For a sedan, that runs from 480 × ₹11 plus the low-end extras (₹6,530) up to 480 × ₹14 plus the high-end extras (₹8,470). A same-day Agra trip is nearly two days’ worth of kilometres squeezed into one, which is why it costs more than a single day rate. Some operators sell fixed-price day packages below these figures, which is fine as long as the package passes the inclusions check above.

If you can spare a night, an overnight Agra tour lets you see the Taj at sunrise instead of after four hours on the expressway. If the day is all you have, our Agra day tour from Delhi by car is built around it. Where budget matters more than flexibility, fast morning trains reach Agra in around two hours; see our same-day Agra tour by train.

On a Golden Triangle loop, you’ll usually return from Jaipur to Delhi on the NE-4 expressway. It’s faster and smoother than the old highway, so if your quote is priced per km, don’t be surprised that the toll line for this leg is higher than for a comparable stretch of ordinary road. You’re paying for the hours it saves.

The 5-day Golden Triangle range runs from ₹2,800 × 5 (a well-kept older sedan, off-peak dates, a straightforward route) to ₹4,000 × 5 (a newer car, peak dates, and stops such as Fatehpur Sikri and Abhaneri). For the full day-by-day route, see our 7-day Golden Triangle itinerary. The 10-day loop uses the midpoint-to-top of each daily range, because longer legs, more tolls and more days on the road usually push quotes there. That’s normal, not padding. Our Rajasthan tour by private car shows how those days typically break up.

    How to Compare Quotes Fairly

Two honest quotes for the same trip can differ because of:

    1. vehicle type and age
    2. whether tolls, parking, state taxes and driver allowance are inside the price
    3. return kilometres on a one-way route
    4. a 250 km daily minimum
    5. GST
    6. season
    7. the operator’s standard of car and driver

None of that makes one quote honest and the other not. It just means you can’t compare them until each one is turned into the same thing: one total, in rupees, for the whole vehicle and the whole trip.

Per-km quotes are the hardest to line up, so convert them into a day figure first. At the 250 km minimum:

    Per-Km vs Day-Equivalent Rates

Converting 250 km daily minimum quotes to flat per-day pricing

    Per-km quote Day equivalent (250 km + allowance + ~₹600 road costs) Typical per-day, vehicle-inclusive
    Sedan at ₹11–14/km ₹3,700–4,450 ₹2,800–4,000
    Ertiga at ₹13–16/km ₹4,200–4,950 ₹3,800–5,000
    Innova at ₹15–17/km ₹4,750–5,250 ₹4,500–6,000
    Innova Crysta at ₹17–21/km ₹5,300–6,300 ₹5,500–7,500
    Tempo Traveller at ₹23–28/km (~₹900 road costs) ₹7,250–8,500 ₹7,500–12,000

For sedans and Ertigas, a per-km quote at the daily minimum lands in the upper part of the per-day range. For a Crysta or a Tempo Traveller, a per-day quote near the top of its range costs more than a per-km quote on light days. Part of that difference buys a fixed price; part may reflect a newer or larger vehicle. Ask what the difference is paying for.

A cheap quote vs a transparent one (hypothetical example)

Say Quote A offers a sedan at ₹2,500 a day for five days, with tolls, parking, state tax, driver allowance and GST all listed as extra.

    Quote A Breakdown

A cheap headline rate vs real on-road costs

    Quote A line Amount
    Hire (5 × ₹2,500) ₹12,500
    Allowance (5 × ₹350) ₹1,750
    Road costs (estimated) ₹2,500–3,500
GST at 5% on hire and allowance ~₹710
    Final total ₹17,460–18,460

Licensed Vehicles, and What to Check Before You Pay

Number plates in India tell you something useful:

    • White plate: a private car, registered for personal use rather than carrying paying passengers.
    • Yellow plate: a commercial transport vehicle, which includes taxis and tourist cars.
    • Tourist permit: a tourist car crossing state lines operates under one, most commonly the All India Tourist Permit.
    • Commercial insurance: a commercial vehicle should also carry it. Operators tell us that a private-car policy generally isn’t valid for paid passenger work, so on a commercial trip the vehicle’s own commercial cover is what matters.

Permits, commercial insurance and state taxes are real running costs, which is one reason licensed operators can’t match every price you’ll see online.

A quote far below the others isn’t automatically a problem. Some operators run older cars, some are quiet in the off-season, and some simply work on thinner margins. It is worth slowing down, though, because low headline prices are where the surprises usually sit: excluded road costs, tight kilometre caps, or shopping stops that earn commission and eat into your sightseeing time.

    Before paying anyone, confirm:

    1. The vehicle’s registration and commercial (yellow-plate) status
    2. The exact model, and roughly how old it is
    3. The driver’s name and phone number
    4. The total trip price, and any daily kilometre or hours cap
    5. What’s included
    6. What’s excluded
    7. Whether GST is included, and at what rate
    8. Tolls
    9. Parking
    10. State taxes and permits
    11. Return charges on one-way routes
    12. Payment and cancellation terms

A reasonable deposit paid to a business is normal. Sending the full amount in advance to a personal account is something we’d advise against. For more on vetting, read Is Hiring a Private Driver in India Safe?.

How We Calculated These 2026 Rates

Scope. The ranges cover Delhi-based tourist vehicles (sedans, Ertigas, Innovas, Innova Crystas and 12-seat Tempo Travellers) on the routes foreign travellers book most: Delhi, Agra, Jaipur and onward into Rajasthan. They were reviewed in September 2026.

    Sources of the ranges.

    1. Per-km rates, driver allowances, night charges and city packages reflect rates that Delhi operators publish for tourist vehicles.
    2. Per-day ranges reflect vehicle-inclusive tourist pricing on these routes.
    3. This is not a statistically representative survey, and it doesn’t describe the whole country.
    4. Delhi prices can’t be applied nationally, because each region has its own fleet costs, demand and permit charges.

    Definitions.

    1. Vehicle-inclusive covers the car, driver, fuel, tolls, parking, state taxes and permits, and the driver allowance.
    2. GST is listed separately because operators handle it differently.
    3. Per-km examples multiply billed kilometres (actual kilometres, or 250 per day, whichever is higher) by the rate, then add the allowance and an estimated ₹500–700 a day of road costs.
    4. Sample trips multiply daily ranges by the number of days, except the Agra day trip, which is built per km.

Why prices vary. Between operators, prices vary with vehicle age, inclusions and how the return run is charged. Across the year, they vary with season and demand.

How We Calculated These 2026 Rates

Data verification and figure classification methodology

    Which Vehicle Should You Book?

    With typical luggage:

    1. Two travellers: a sedan is usually enough. An Ertiga makes sense with more than two large cases, or several long drives.
    2. Three travellers: an Ertiga.
    3. Four travellers: an Innova, or a Crysta for long drives.
    4. Six or more: a Tempo Traveller becomes the practical choice, and the cost per head keeps falling as the group grows.

Private car driver holding a name sign at Delhi Airport arrivals

    FAQ

Q1. How much does a private car and driver cost in India?

On Delhi-based North India routes in 2026, plan on ₹2,800–4,000 a day for a sedan and ₹5,500–7,500 a day for an Innova Crysta, per vehicle, with fuel, tolls, parking, state taxes and the driver’s keep included. Other regions, such as Kerala or Goa, have their own local rates.

Q2. Can foreigners hire a private car with driver in India?

Yes. Foreign visitors can book a private car and driver freely, and it’s how most international travellers cover the Golden Triangle. You don’t need an Indian licence or any permit of your own; the operator’s tourist vehicle and driver carry the paperwork.

Q3. What is the per-km rate for a car with driver?

Delhi operators typically charge ₹11–14 per km for a sedan and ₹17–21 for an Innova Crysta. To compare with a day rate, multiply the per-km rate by 250 and add the allowance and road costs. A ₹12/km sedan quote works out to roughly ₹3,950 a day.

Q4. Is it cheaper to hire a car per day or per km in India?

It depends on the vehicle, the rates and your daily distance. Per-km quotes often bill a 250 km minimum per day, so light sightseeing days cost as much as travel days. Long days above 250 km favour a flat per-day rate.

Q5. How much does an Innova Crysta with driver cost in India?

About ₹5,500–7,500 a day (roughly US$58–79) vehicle-inclusive, or ₹17–21 per km plus extras. Over five days, a Crysta costs about ₹15,500 more than a sedan at mid-range rates. That’s easy to justify for four adults and harder for two.

Q6. Are tolls included in the price?

In a vehicle-inclusive quote, yes. Per-km and taxi-style quotes usually add tolls at actual cost, so ask for them to be written into the total before you compare.

Q7. Do I have to pay for my driver’s hotel in India?

No. The daily driver allowance in the quote covers his meals and lodging. What can be extra is night driving, commonly ₹250–500 when the car runs after about 10 pm.

Q8. How much should I tip my driver in India?

Tipping is optional and entirely your choice. Many travellers use a guideline of around ₹300–500 a day for a driver who has looked after them well, usually given at the end of the trip.

Q9. How much does Delhi to Agra by private car cost?

A same-day round trip of about 480 km costs roughly ₹6,500–8,500 in a sedan and ₹9,500–12,000 in an Innova Crysta, including allowance, tolls and parking. Tickets are extra: the Taj Mahal alone is ₹1,100, plus ₹200 for the mausoleum, for a foreign adult.

Q10. How much is an airport pickup in Delhi?

A private transfer from Delhi (IGI) airport to a city hotel is usually a fixed ₹1,000–1,500 in a sedan, more for an Innova Crysta or a Tempo Traveller. It’s priced as a transfer, not a full day, so it’s far cheaper than hiring the car for the whole day.

    Q11. Which vehicle is best for 2, 3, 4 or 6+ travellers?

Two: a sedan, or an Ertiga with heavy luggage. Three: an Ertiga. Four: an Innova, or a Crysta for long drives. Six or more: a Tempo Traveller, which becomes the cheapest per head as the group grows.

Q12. How much should I budget for a private driver for a week?

For seven days in North India, budget ₹19,600–28,000 for a sedan (about US$206–295) or ₹38,500–52,500 for an Innova Crysta (about US$405–553), per vehicle. Hotels, meals, tickets, guides and tips come on top.

Q13. Is hiring a private car and driver in India safe?

It’s generally a safe way to travel when you book a licensed operator. Check for a yellow commercial plate, confirm the exact vehicle, and get the driver’s name and number before the trip starts.

Q14. Can I pay in US dollars or by card?

With Discover India By Car, yes. Pay the driver in cash at the end of the trip in rupees, US dollars, euros or pounds, or by card with a 5% finance surcharge. Wise and Revolut transfers are also accepted. Other operators set their own terms.
